CONVOCATION GUIDELINE FOR UNDERGRADUATES

Graduation is a significant milestone in every student's journey. It is the opportunity for the University and family to fomally recognise the hrad work, and congratulate on your success. It is also a meaningful time for family and friends, from near and far to celebrate your achievements and wishing you good luck on embarking a new adventure of life.

The 32nd Convocation Ceremony will take place from Saturday, 19 October 2019 to Wednesday, 23 October 2019 at the Muadzam Shah Hall, Universiti Utara Malaysia.

In order to ensure the smooth running of the event, here are few steps that you need to take before attending the ceremony. Please read thoroughly.

 

PRE-CEREMONY

If you are eligible to graduate and attend the Convocation Ceremony, here are the things that you need to do first:

STEP 1 : GRADUATION STATUS REVIEW

You can check your eligibility to graduate and confirm your attendance to the ceremony, through Convo Mobile App. This app can be downloaded for free from Google Store and Apple Store.

The letter of Invitation To The Convocation Ceremony  can be printed from either UUM Portal or UUM Convo Mobile App.

STEP 2 : CONFIRM YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
STEP 3 : EXPRESS YOUR GRATITUDE
STEP 4 : CLEAR ANY OUTSTANDING AMOUNT DUE TO THE UNIVERSITY
STEP 5 : GRADUATE TRACER STUDY SURVEY
STEP 6 : CONFERMENT OF DEGREES
STEP 7 : COLLECTING YOUR ROBE AND MORTAR BOARD
STEP 8 : GUESTS INVITATION CARDS AND CAR STICKERS
STEP 9 : I CAN’T ATTEND THE CEREMONY

THE CEREMONY

Since the ceremony is an official with strict protocol, graduates must adhere to the rules and etiquettes mentioned below. 

STEP 10 : CONVOCATION DRESS CODE FOR THE GRADUATES

Here are the official dress for the graduates to be worn underneath the robe.

i) Gents

You must wear formally.You will look great wearing plain light coloured long sleeve shirt, with suitable colour necktie. Put on a dark coat, matched with similar colour trousers, and formal black leather shoes and socks. You may to wear lounge suit as well. Neat and tidy will make you look more smart and presentable.

ii) Ladies

You may choose to wear baju kurung, lounge suit, loose plain blouse with dark coloured pants or match it with plain dark coloured skirt of ankle length. The skirt should be without slits on any sides. You will appear formally with black court shoes, maximum of 1.5 inch heel height. You will look beautiful and gorgeous wearing descent and modest clothes on the stage.

Please tie your hair properly and neatly. Put small pins to prevent your hair from covering your face, or falling to the side. Otherwise, your on-stage picture will be spoilt.

While niqabis need to adhere to the varsity's rule, as not to put face veils while on stage.

POST-CEREMONY

You need to return your robe and collect your certificates after you have attended your session.

STEP 14 : RETURNING YOUR ROBE

Robes can be returned after the ceremony at the Robing Room, based on the schedule given.

You may choose to send the representatives to return the robe on your behalf. The representative need to submit the Robe Returning Form printed from your portal, to the staff in charge. 

Late return of the robe set will be fined the minimum of RM10/day, and the maximum of RM600, effective from 29 OCTOBER 2019.

* Please note that the Robing Room will be closed on 27 OCTOBER 2019 (SUNDAY) for DEEPAVALI public holiday. The service will resume as usual on the next day.

STEP 15 : COLLECTING YOUR CERTIFICATE AND TRANSCRIPT

GUIDE FOR PARENTS AND GUESTS

This section is served as guide for parents and guests in respect to honour His Royal Majesty Tuanku Chancellor and other distinguished guests.

DRESS CODE FOR PARENTS AND GUESTS

Male guests may choose to wear lounge suit, batik, national dress, long or short sleeve shirt with trousers.

While, female guests are suggested to wear national dress, long or short sleeve blouse with ankle length skirt, or long trousers.

This dress code also applies to children above 12 years age.

With due respect to the ceremony, guests with improper dress will be prohibited from entering the hall.
